Family
literacy
The
family literacy program serves families in many locations throughout
Lake County. The primary purpose of the program is to enhance literacy
in homes. Parents are encouraged to participate in our adult education
program while their children are engaged in educational activities to
foster reading from an early age. They are also given ideas, materials
and books so they can engage in literacy activities with their children.
The most important activity for parents and children to do together
is to spend time reading children's books. The Family Literacy program
collects and distributes donated children's books and parents are taken
on tours to become familiar with their local libraries. Children's librarians
are often invited to meet with parents and children to talk about the
wonderful collection of books that is available to families.
Computer
assisted instruction
The Adult
Learning and Technology Center computer lab is open daily for student
and tutor use. A variety of learning software is available for individuals
to practice reading, typing, test taking and other skills. We also offer
free beginning and intermediate level computer training courses in both
English and Spanish through our Digital Divide program. For more information
about our lab or computer classes, please call 847-360-8600.
